Description

The International Major Multisport Games (IMMG) component of the Hosting Program supports large, multisport games that are governed by an international sport franchise holder with links to international sport federations.

These events contribute to the Sport Excellence Strategy and provide a focus for the high-performance plans and long-term athlete development of national sport organizations (NSOs). The Federal Policy for Hosting International Sport Events sets out that the Government of Canada will consider support for the hosting of two IMMG every 10 years (subject to the Hosting Program budget and/or necessary approvals).

Eligible Applicants

Eligible recipients are organizations that are incorporated as non-profit corporations under federal or provincial law, including eligible multisport service organizations (MSOs) and organizations created for a specific bidding or hosting project.

Eligible Expenses

Funding is provided for project-related expenses, including the operating and capital expenses of delivering a bidding or hosting project, as well as those expenses identified in the Host Society’s/Organizing Committee’s legacy plan, as follows:

  • Operating expenses

These are expenses required to implement an IMMG. Examples include: office rental; salaries; ceremonies; volunteer uniforms; pageantry, insurance; translation; equipment purchase; officials honoraria; doping control; medical services; programming or training camps that will help enhance the skills of athletes, coaches, officials; training of volunteers in financial, official languages, hosting, organizational skills; and the engagement of official language minority communities for the planning and delivery of an IMMG.

  • Capital expenses

These are expenses related to the construction or improvement of permanent structures. Examples include: building or upgrades to an existing venue structure to ensure that special outfitting requirements are met (such as state-of-the-art diving platforms); increase in spectator capacity; and enhanced lighting or air quality control.

In considering the level of federal funding, we compare activities and budgets against similar projects and assess the need for financial support.

Deadline Date

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, but must be submitted prior to initiating a bid to host an IMMG.
