Science & Technology Internship Program (STIP) – Green Jobs | NRCan

Description

STIP – Green Jobs, as part of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), provides funding to employers in the natural resources sector (e.g., energy, forestry, mining, earth sciences, and clean technology) to hire, train, and mentor youth ages 15-30 (inclusive) for up to 12 months. STIP – Green Jobs creates quality employment and skills training opportunities for youth to gain the hands-on work experience, knowledge, and skills needed for a successful transition into the workforce. In 2025-26, the Government of Canada will invest $14.2 million in contribution funding for the Program to create 470 quality employment and skills training opportunities for youth across Canada in the natural resources sector.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible Initial Recipient applicants include:

  • Not-for-profit organizations (including voluntary organizations and foundations);
  • Indigenous organizations (including Band Councils, Tribal Councils, and self-government entities);
  • Provincial and territorial governments, institutions, agencies, and Crown Corporations;
  • Municipal governments;
  • Public health, educational and cultural organizations; or,
  • For-profit organizations, provided that the nature and intent of the activity is non-commercial, not intended to generate profit, and supports program priorities and objectives.

Eligible Initial Recipient applicants:

  • Have knowledge of the natural resources sector. This includes sectors pertaining to mines, minerals, forests and forestry, earth sciences and energy, including energy developed from renewable resources such as water, solar, wind and forest resources;
  • Be recognized as professional organizations in their respective fields by having the governance structure, staff, and networks that make them good candidates to implement the project; and,
  • Are legal entities validly incorporated or registered in Canada.

Eligible Expenses

Wage subsidy.

STIP – Green Jobs has $14.2 million in contribution funding for fiscal year 2025-26 (April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026). In order to be eligible for funding in 2026-27 and 2027-28, Initial Recipients must be qualified through the 2025-26 Call for Proposals. Agreements for 2026-28 will be selected from the pool of successful applicants resulting from this call for proposals and will be based availability of funds; project results; and geographic, demographic and sector distribution.

Deadline Date

The deadline to submit a proposal is Wednesday January 15, 2025, 23:59 Pacific Time.
