Each Rising Star receives $5,000 and access to a series of career development and networking events.

Description

The Writers’ Trust Rising Stars program is a dynamic career development initiative that recognizes five Canadian authors at the onset of their careers who are poised to produce exceptional and enduring creative work. Rising Stars are selected, endorsed and mentored by five prominent Canadian authors. They each receive $5,000 and a writers’ residency opportunity.

Eligible Applicants

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • In the developing stages of their careers, though there is no age restriction.
  • Working in any language in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or children’s literature, including artists working in multiple mediums and/or experimenting with the literary art form.
  • At minimum, have at least one literary publishing credit in a magazine, newspaper, periodical, or anthology.
  • At maximum, have two books published with a traditional publishing house.

Eligible Expenses

Rising Stars are selected, endorsed and mentored by five prominent Canadian authors. They each receive $5,000 and a writers’ residency opportunity.
