The objective of the Innovation & Experimentation Program (the “Program”) is to fund Canadian interactive digital media projects that are innovative and leading-edge.
In addition to any further requirements/qualifications noted in the specific IDM Content – Program Guidelines, an Eligible Applicant2 to the CMF is either a for-profit (i.e., a taxable Canadian corporation, within the meaning of Canada’s Income Tax Act)3 production company or Canadian Broadcaster (defined in Appendix A) that:
Applicants must own and control all rights necessary to produce and exploit the Eligible Project. Entities that provide services but do not own applicable rights are not eligible to apply to the CMF.
Eligible Costs must be costs directly related to the Project, including but not limited to:
Projects must spend a minimum of 25% and maximum of 50% of budget categories B + C of their production budget on eligible marketing and promotion costs.
The Innovation & Experimentation Program operates on a periodic cycle. The deadlines for the 2025-2026 cycle have passed. New program details and deadlines for the 2026-2027 cycle are anticipated to be launched on April 1, 2026.
