Local Food Infrastructure Fund – Small Scale Projects (LFIF) | Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)

Description

The Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF) supports projects that strengthen community food security and increase the availability and accessibility of local, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food through food production-focused activities for equity-deserving groups, particularly Indigenous and Black communities.

Eligible Applicants

You must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible:

  • You are one of the following organization types:
    • Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, Inuit): First Nation, Inuit or Métis organization. They may include:
      • First Nation, Inuit or Métis community and/or governments
      • First Nation, Inuit or Métis not-for-profit associations
      • First Nation, Inuit or Métis not-for-profit organizations
    • Not-for-profit: Organizations that have a mandate or mission to provide community food services. They may include:
      • associations
      • corporations
      • local community, charitable or voluntary organizations
    • Municipal Administrations
  • Your organization fosters equity, diversity and inclusion by removing barriers so that each person (including those who identify as Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and others, as well as Black and Indigenous communities) has equal access to opportunities and resources and can achieve their full potential.
  • By the application submission date, you’ve been in operation for at least 2 years as a legal entity (federally, provincially, or territorially incorporated) capable of entering into legally binding agreements.

Eligible Expenses

AAFC will only fund project-related costs that are pertinent, reasonable and essential to accomplish the objectives of an eligible activity. Eligible costs are infrastructure/equipment that are purchased, constructed, developed or otherwise acquired and:

  • are an essential part of the project activities
  • are not intended for resale in the ordinary course of operations
  • the cost of which are considered to include the purchase price plus other acquisition costs, such as installation costs, freight charges, shipping costs, and duties
  • have a useful life for at least 2 years after the project completion date
  • are for project-related deliverables, such as:
    • contracted installation (only eligible for LFIF-funded equipment)
    • freight and duty charges
    • one-time initial training for operation of a specialized piece of equipment funded under the project
    • shipping
    • site preparation

Deadline Date

Applications will be accepted from October 1, 2024 to October 31, 2024 at 11:59 pm Pacific Time.
