The I.D.E.A.L. Scholarship focuses on improving the representation of equity-deserving groups in the sector while helping students achieve their academic goals in biosciences.

Recipients of the scholarship create long-lasting positive impacts on their careers, communities and the industry as a whole. Specifically, the I.D.E.A.L. Scholarship can help:

  • Start your career in biosciences: receive the financial support needed to earn your diploma or degree and kickstart your biosciences career.
  • Inspire IDEA: recipients will have the opportunity to showcase their leadership in inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility – inspiring others to become IDEA champions.

Eligible Applicants

To qualify for the I.D.E.A.L Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Provide documentation confirming they will be entering their first year of study in a biosciences related program in an accredited college, university or CEGEP in Canada 
  • Express financial need
  • Proof of academic achievement (e.g. latest academic transcript)
  • For 2025-2026, applicants must identify as a member of one of the following equity-deserving groups:
    • Indigenous Peoples (An Indigenous person is a North American Indian or a member of a First Nation, Métis or Inuit. North American Indians or members of a First Nation include treaty, status or registered Indians, as well as non-status and non-registered Indians)
    • Persons with a Disability (Defined by: Qualifying for the Canadian Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
    • New immigrants to Canada (Defined by: An immigrant, refugee, or permanent resident who has been in Canada for a short time, usually less than five years)

Eligible Expenses

This year, BioTalent Canada will award three $10,000 scholarships to students entering their first year of study in a biosciences-related accredited program.
