Energy Innovation Program – Smart Grids:

Description

The Energy Innovation Program’s Smart Grid call for proposals will provide support to the key technology, market, and regulatory innovations that address barriers in order to scale pilot projects into grid-wide deployments. The intended results include significant impacts to enhancing grid reliability, resiliency, and flexibility; energy affordability; enabling greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions; and making market conditions more favourable to scaling successful innovations.

Eligible Applicants

Smart Grid Calls:

  • Demonstration:
    • The call is open to the following eligible Canadians:
      1. Legal entities validly incorporated or registered in Canada including:
        • For profit and not-for-profit organizations;
        • Community groups; and
        • Canadian academic institutions.
      2. Provincial, territorial, regional, and municipal governments and their departments and agencies, where applicable.
      3. Indigenous
        • Indigenous communities or governments;
        • Tribal Councils or entities that fulfill a similar function (e.g., general councils);
        • National and regional councils, and tribal organizations;
        • Indigenous (majority owned and controlled by Indigenous people) for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
  • Regulatory Innovation Capacity Building
    • Eligible Canadian recipients will be:
      1. Legal entities validly incorporated or registered in Canada including:
        • For profit and not-for-profit organizations;
        • Community groups; and
        • Canadian academic institutions.
      2. Provincial, territorial, regional, and municipal governments and their departments and agencies, where applicable.
      3. Indigenous
        • Indigenous communities or governments;
        • Tribal Councils or entities that fulfill a similar function (e.g., general councils);
        • National and regional councils, and tribal organizations;
        • Indigenous (majority owned and controlled by Indigenous people) for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.

Eligible Expenses

Smart Grid Calls:

  • Demonstration:
    • Program funding for this call is open to projects that request between $500,000 and $6,000,000 (comprising up to 50% of total project costs).
  • Regulatory Innovation Capacity Building
    • Program funding for this call is open to projects that request between $250,000 and $1,500,000 (comprising up to 75% of total project costs).

Deadline Date

Demonstration and Regulatory Innovation Capacity Building: January 31, 2024.
