Description

BioTalent Canada’s Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) program boosts an organization’s capacity to advance digital innovations and accelerate Canada’s position as a world leader in the ever-evolving knowledge economy by helping underemployed post-secondary graduates enhance and develop digital and soft skills through work and training opportunities.

Eligible Applicants

Employers must:

  • Be a Canadian bio-economy employer providing digital internships ** with skills development training**, mentoring and support
  • Be a small- to medium-sized organization – under 500 employees

Eligible Employers can be:

  • Not-for-profit organizations (including voluntary organizations, community organizations, public libraries and foundations)
  • Municipal governments
  • Indigenous organizations (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities)
  • For-profit organizations
  • Public health and educational institutions
  • Provincial and territorial governments, institutions, agencies and Crown Corporations

Participants must:

  • Between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the internship;
  • Post-secondary graduates (interns who live in Yukon, Northwest Territories or Nunavut are exempt from this criteria)
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada;
  • Able to self-identify as underemployed (employed below their level of education, unemployed or employed part-time)

Eligible Expenses

Examples of digital internships:

  • Software and video game development
  • Coding and app development
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Adaptive technologies
  • Website development
  • Web-enabled learning
  • Social media campaigns and other content development
  • Robotics
  • Big data (Data science)
  • 3D and 3D bioprinting of medical devices and tissue/organs
  • Cyberbiosecurity
  • Artificial intelligence

Examples of training:

  • Professional or accredited providers who will offer a suite of Programs related to digital skills like:
    • Coding
    • Web developing
    • Digital media workshop
    • Proficiency in the use of various software programs
  • and/or soft skills like:
    • Communication
    • Entrepreneurship
    • Strategic thinking
